Revising for and passing Galop 1
The home straight: how the assessment works, the FFE’s sample test course, the key points to remember, a quiz and the list of everything you must be able to do.
In the exam programme
- Ride a Galop® 1 test course.Specific part
Exam day
Your instructor assesses you at an exam session or during your lessons. Come properly dressed: a riding hat that meets current standards, suitable footwear, close-fitting clothes. Get your pony ready without rushing: the way you approach him, tie him up and brush him counts too. The knowledge part is checked orally or in writing.
The Galop 1 test course
Here is the example the FFE suggests; your instructor may adapt it to your club.
- Lead and mountLead your pony to the mounting area, keep him standing still and get into the saddle.
- At walkRide a volte — a small circle — then halt inside a marked-out area.
- At rising trotRise to the trot in rhythm and ride through a slalom.
- At canterCanter a few strides. This part is optional in the example: your instructor can also assess it during your lessons.
- On your own, both waysAt trot, leave the track and ride on your own, turning left and right.
- BalancedTrot balanced on your stirrups over poles on the ground, then come back to walk.
- Stirrups and reinsQuit and retake your stirrups, then let go of your reins and take them up again, over about 40 metres.
- FinishHalt at the place you are shown, and dismount.
